Who is Cobra Interrogator, dear Cobra Commander?

Well here it is, the final piece to Vacation in the Shadows, this year’s G.I.Joe Con Box set; a set that’s really sealed the deal for me with the last couple of reveals. While none of the characters individually grab me like the Collector Club’s free membership figure – Big Lob – this figure and the prior figure announced, the Red Shadows trooper, in my mind are two rather strong additions.

“What is he hiding in the Mountains of Germany?”

Again, if you don’t know the deal on the Red Shadows and how they apply to G.I. Joe, I went into them briefly in my first post about this set (which revealed the Flint, Black Major, and Red Torches). Cobra Interrogator, however, is actually a figure that’s unique to Cobra with no existing (that we know of ) Red Shadow ties. So, just who is this figure that’s coming with a removable mask, his face not as of yet revealed?? Even his file card from previous figures leaves room for interpretation:

from Yojoe.com

Is he Baron Iron Blood? As I’ve told you previously, the Baron became our own Cobra Commander after betraying the Red Shadows (and Destro spawned from Red Jackal) and forming Cobra.. Is he another agent from the Red Shadows, either new or from the past, who secretly joined Iron Blood’s Cobra? Is he Red Laser? Is he an existing Cobra character that we know already who will have a new backstory retconned for him as a Red Shadow (Dr. Mindbender, or perhaps an attempt to make Crystal Ball cool?)? Is he Chuckles deep cover ready to smoke everybody, picking up a missile style?

Interrogator first appeared in 1991 with the Battle Coptor, as a mail-order in 1993 in a two pack (w/ the version 2 of Major Altitude), and most recently in 2006 as part of the Viper Lockdown set (the filecard above is from that). I have to admit to – at this point – loving this bit of intrigue, an I hope the answer pays off!

This set is going to be popular IMHO. The troop builders are going to crazy for the Red Shadow trooper figures.I've been told we are going to get reviews items for BSCkids and BSC review so I'll bring more in-hand word when I can.

I think Black Major , Flint, and especially the Torches will be dumped online, but I think this figure and Troopers is going to push sales.

    RE: the bug

While the original line was just before my time in terms of the toy line (I was a second gen kid), there's something awesome about getting those originals (straight arms or not). I love mine.
  • I think I've finally got the bug. Thinking about collecting 3 3/4s from the beginning up. Miss having them, and would love to have them on display for my sons to enjoy and learn about.
